Although we have until now largely refrained from producing sports-specific topics, we elected here to devote an issue to boxing because of the unique nature of this sport and the sometimes devastating injuries associated with it. Drs. Varlotta and Jordan have done a great job of putting this issue together.

As you would expect, head injuries are very common in boxing, and much of the issue is devoted to this topic. The editors did not stop there, however, and also included several insightful articles on the role of the physician, safety, doping concerns, and a plethora of medical topics. The result is an excellent treatise for the physician who covers this challenging sport, and for all of us who share a common interest in taking care of athletes.
